5 Reasons You're Bloated

Welcome to the Veda Nutrition Newsletter

Thank you!

Dear Reader,

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for your incredible support with the launch of Veda Nutrition. Your love and words of encouragement have been the driving force behind my passion for this venture. Thank you!

If you've had the chance to explore my anti-inflammatory 7-Day Meal Plan, you've caught a glimpse of my approach to food. And if you know me personally, you know that while I truly love to cook and eat healthy foods, I am also human. Part of being “healthy” is allowing for flexibility. We're all navigating a super confusing food environment as we try to do better for ourselves and loved ones.

I'm not here to help you become the healthiest person on earth, swearing off all but the purest foods and meditating daily in a cave. My aim is to help you reach your goals and feel good in your body every damn day.

Because when you wake up feeling rested, have energy to crush a workout, or go through an entire day without bloating or funky digestion, you feel better in your body, and you show up differently in your life.

Perhaps you've tried the "get healthy" routine a million times, only to be bombarded by conflicting advice— Paleo? Keto? Vegan? Carnivore? It's a jungle out there.

While these approaches may yield temporary results, they often come with strict limitations. How can you adopt an eating style that feels nourishing, flexible, and accommodates a full and busy life?

The key is to fuel your body with intention and incorporate micro habits to get you there.

Drawing from my 15 years of experience in this field, I understand the significance of having a trusted partner on this journey. That's why I'm offering my time, attention, and support to help you reach your health and wellness goals.

I'll be sharing bits of wisdom along the way, but feel free to unsubscribe if it's not your vibe.

Thank you again for being an integral part of this awesome journey. Read on for the latest blog post!

Warmly,

Jessica

5 Reasons You're Bloated That Have Nothing To Do With Food

Ever wonder why you get "food baby" even when your meals seem innocent? It's often not what you're eating, but how you're eating. Here are five not-so-obvious culprits and how to fix them:

1. Revved Up Nervous System

Picture this - you’re an early human running from a saber tooth tiger. Do you stop to go to the bathroom? Heck no - There’s no time! When you’re in survival mode, your intelligent body shuts down digestion to route blood flow to the muscles and brain so you can run!

Now, fast forward a few thousand years. You’re late for a doctor’s appointment, so you gulp down your morning coffee and shovel in a protein bar as you rush out the door. You’re perfectly safe, but to your primitively hard-wired nervous system, it feels like a tiger chase.

The point is, digestion does not work in fight-or-flight mode; it's part of rest-and-digest mode.

The Fix: Slow down, sit, take a few deep breaths before eating. Drink your stimulating coffee after you’ve had some food to calm down your nervous system. Downshift more often with walks outside, yoga or breathing exercises, or even coloring.

2. Lack of Chewing

It’s obvious that swallowing chunks of food would be tough on your digestion. But most people don’t know that chewing is more than a mechanical task; it's a chemical signal. It activates the vagus nerve— the trigger that switches you into rest-and-digest mode.

Chewing also stimulates your stomach acid, digestive enzymes and the muscle contractions that help move the food through your GI tract.

The Fix: Chew until it's applesauce consistency (about 30-40x per bite). Your digestion will thank you.
